Dr. Ruby L. Belton is a graduate of Jackson State College, and a past Macy Foundation Post-Baccalaureate Fellow. Dr. Belton attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1968-1972, becoming the first African-American female to graduate from the University of Rochester Medical School. She and her son Douglas Belton Jr., MD, MBA, FRCPC are the first pair of first and second generation African-American graduates from the University of Rochester Medical School.
She has served as a Mixed Medicine – Surgery Resident at Strong Memorial Hospital, and completed her Radiology residency at Rochester General Hospital. She is a board-certified radiologist and Breast Cancer Imaging Specialist. She has special interest in oncology, genitourinary, head and neck and gastrointestinal imaging.
She has held a lead position in Breast Imaging at Park Ridge Hospital. While at Rochester General Hospital, she served as Section Chief of the Abdomen, Body Computed Tomography, Abdominal Ultrasound and co-lead physicians in Gastrointestinal Radiology.
She has been licensed to practice medicine in New York State since 1972, and board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology since 1976.
Dr. Belton has been married to Douglas Belton Sr. for 46 years. They are the parents of Shayla Janine Belton D.V.M. M.S.M.S., and Douglas Belton Jr., MD, MBA, FRCPC (daughter-in-law, Odette J., Esq.). They are the proud grandparents of granddaughter Olivia Loren Belton.
Dr. Belton is a woman of faith. She believes she exists to care, give, love and teach.
